Opposites Attract by Human Statue Bodyart; Joins in Fair Day, Sydney, Australia

Creative arts, including the bodypaint medium, have long been popular with social and community awareness campaigns, and so it was once again today as bodypainted models did the trick for 'Opposites Attract', as seen at the gay communities 'Fair Day' which took place at Victoria Park.

Will and Glen - the Opposites Attract men were promoting the world's only study that is focused on HIV transmission in gay male serodiscordant sexual relationships.

The community research looks into HIV, agreements and testing.

The recruiting campaign is taking place in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Adelaide.

The team at Human Statue Bodyart is delighted to have assisted in the awareness campaign, via the creative arts.

Human Statue Bodyart usually works on campaigns of a more corporate nature, along with providing entertainment and models, but today was more about social and community entrepreneurship, and helping gain more attention for a most worthy crusade, and from all early reports the 'Fair Day' and its campaigns have been a huge success.

Well done to everyone involved in the great work by Opposites Attract and Fair Day, and we look forward to seeing you again soon.

All the fun of Fair Day, plus free valet parking! - February 7th, 2013

Join the 70,000-strong Fair Day crowds this month and beat the Sydney traffic by cycling to Victoria Park on Sunday 10 February and enjoy free valet bike parking.

A Sydney Mardi Gras tradition, Fair Day kicks off the party with performances, outrageous costumes, food tents, bars, live music, amusement rides and the hotly contested Doggywood pet pageant.

Lord Mayor Clover Moore said Fair Day was always a popular event, so leaving the car at home was a good idea.

“Fair Day celebrates the start of one of our biggest parties – each year Sydney Mardi Gras attracts about 25,000 tourists who boost our local economy by more than $30 million,” the Lord Mayor said.

“The event shows that we are an accepting and welcoming community and also helps to promote Sydney around the world as Australia’s gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender (GLBT) capital.

“Riding a bike is the best way to get to Fair Day, and the City will provide free valet parking to keep bikes safe and secure while everyone enjoys the fun of the fair.

“We’ll also have a stall where new or out-of-action riders can Try2Wheels and join the 30,000 people already riding to school, work or for leisure in Sydney each week.”

City of Sydney Fair Day bike details:

Free valet bike parking from 10am-7.30pm, entry via City Road near Cleveland Street;
Visit the two bike mechanics next to the Bike Valet for free tune-ups;
Try2Wheels between 10am and 7.30pm and visit the information stand in Area G to try a bike, pick up a map, find information about free bike courses, check out the latest accessories, and go in the draw for great prizes, including a brand-new bike.
The Sydney Cycleways stand will sit alongside gay and lesbian cycling group Sydney Spokes in the Fair Day Sports Village organised by Team Sydney.

President Mauricio Herrera knows first-hand cycling is not only good exercise – but also “a fantastic way to meet other gays and lesbians.”

“I moved to Erskineville from Venezuela about four years ago and joined Sydney Spokes because I wanted the opportunity to ride with someone else and get to know Sydney – it’s helped me make a great new group of friends,” Mr Herrera said.

“Sydney Spokes has been around for 27 years and we have more than 60 gay and lesbian members who meet up almost every weekend for organised rides.

“Cycling is a great way to stay healthy and support one another, while also expanding your social circle and exploring the local area.

“We’ve seen a jump in gay and lesbians who want to start riding, as more new bike lanes are being built across Sydney – and we’re always keen for new recruits!”

The City is a major sponsor of Sydney Mardi Gras 2013 and 2014 with cash sponsorship of $400,000, as well as up to $252,700 in-kind sponsorship.
